A black bear was spotted crossing the street at 26th Avenue East in Duluth.

Spring is finally here and hibernation has come to a close. This video made for a good reminder that bears do wonder through the city from time to time. I've only come close to a bear once, when one wondered into a tree outside city hall a few years ago.

Since then, I've studied up on things to do should you encounter a bear. According to bearsmart.com, the biggest tip is avoid, avoid, avoid. You don't want to encounter one at all, so the best is tip is to try and leave the area safely. The average black bear can run up to 35 mph, which is faster than any human.
