The Philadelphia Flyers took on the Minnesota Wild last night at the Xcel Energy Center. Wild's Nicolas Deslauriers got into his first fight since joining the Wild and it got bloody.

Before I dive into the bloody fight, let's talk about the fact that it was also former UMD captain Noah Cates' NHL debut. Cates was drafted by the Flyers in the 2017 NHL-Entry draft. Cates is from Stillwater, Minnesota which is about 22 miles away from the Xcel.

The former Bulldog even had his own cheering section at the game which I thought was pretty awesome. According to DNT, Cates did a solo lap on the rink to a thunderous round of cheers, applause and pounding on the glass from a few dozen men who were his college teammates.

This also isn't the first time the Wild have been in a bloody altercation this season. Earlier this month on 3/10/22 the team got into a bloody brawl with the Redwings in Detroit:

So let's dive into last night's fight, shall we?  Left winger Nicolas Deslauriers was traded to the Wild from the Anaheim Ducks on March 19th for a third round pick, right before the trade deadline this season. Known as an enforcer, Deslauriers got into his first fight as a Wild player and it was a beaut.

He took on Philadelphia's defenseman Nick Seeler.  Seeler was actually drafted by the Wild back in the 2011 entry draft and is from Eden Prairie. The fight broke out pretty early on into the first period. Check out the bloody fight below:

The scrap must have energized the team as the Wild improved their winning streak and won 4-1.
