A group of UMD students was driving in Jay Cooke State Park when they noticed a deer that a fallen through the ice, instead of just ignoring the situation the boys sprung into action.

Brennon Staves, Jake Gilmer, and Reid Saarela noticed the small doe struggling to get out from the hole it created when it fell through. Using what appears to be a tow strap, the boys were able to rope the deer and drag her to safety.

After being the freed, Staves says the deer "ran off into the woods to live another day."
