Wild Trade Charlie Coyle To Boston For Ryan Donato, Draft Pick
It is being reported that the Minnesota Wild have traded Charlie Coyle to the Boston Bruins for Ryan Donato and a draft pick. Michael Russo tweeted news of this trade Wednesday afternoon, and other sources are corroborating the story.
Coyle is a Massachusetts native, so the trade to Boston is a return home for the 26 year-old center. He joins a Bruins squad that is in the mix for the playoffs this year, while the Minnesota Wild are in full-on sell mode after a collapse this season that has been partially fueled by injuries.
Sporting News is reporting that the Wild are getting a 5th round pick, along with center Ryan Donato. Donato is a 22 year-old Boston native in his second year in the NHL. Through 34 games played this season, Donato has 6 goals, 3 assists, for a total of 9 points. Boston.com reports that Donato hasn't played for Boston since January 17, and has been skating for the Bruins' AHL affiliate.
Coyle hasn't put up elite stats the last couple years, having fallen off offensively since his 21-goal season in 2015-2016. He scored 11 goals last season in 66 games, and has 10 goals so far this season through 60 games played. He has also only had one season with over 50% face off win percentage for the team, which was last year.
Coyle joins another player with Minnesota ties recently joining the Bruins. Former UMD Bulldog and Cloquet-Esko-Carlton Lumberjack Karson Kuhlman signed a deal with the Bruins organization in April of last year, and was called up to the NHL just last week.
