No matter where you are, you'll most likely run into some bad drivers. There's a new 2023 study that ranks cities in the United States based on good and bad drivers. Let's find out where cities in Minnesota and Wisconsin fall.

According to a study done by the website Clever Move, about 80% of drivers believe they’re better than average. Turns out, bad drivers literally exist everywhere. The worst is when someone is weaving in front of you, you go to pass them, and no surprise, they are driving and texting.

To find out which cities attract the worst drivers, the website used some very specific metrics that included:

  • Average annual traffic fatalities per 100,000 residents from 2014-2020
  • Average annual alcohol-related traffic fatalities per 100,000 residents from 2014-2020
  • Days of precipitation per year
  • Average annual vehicle insurance premiums in the state
  • Percentage of uninsured drivers in the state
  • Allstate’s best drivers rank
  • Google Trends for DUI
  • Auto repair shops per 100,000 residents

They also used data sources from: the U.S. National Centers for Environmental Information, the U.S. Census, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Yelp, Google Trends, and more.

So clearly they are looking into bigger cities, rather than smaller ones. So if you happen to live in a city with less than 100,000 residents, it's time to blow a sigh of relief. Before we dive into the top ten best and worst, the site also had top 5 rankings in their categories.

For example, Minneapolis came in at number 3 for the fewest traffic fatalities. Boston and New York came in first and second. That was the only top five that a Minnesota city ranked in. There wasn't a single Wisconsin city that ranked in the top five for any of the bad or good categories. Honestly, not a bad thing.

It's time for these drivers to take a victory lap:

Good for Minneapolis who made the list of cities for the best drivers for 2023. However, Minneapolis was also on the list of dirtiest cities across the United States. The only city in Wisconsin to make the list for best and worst drivers was Milwaukee, coming in at 39. Not too shabby for Minnesota and Wisconsin drivers.
