Over the 4th of July weekend, I watched season 3 of 'Stranger Things' and it was hard to do because I could have come up with 50 things, but here are my top 5 things to love about the new season.

This is a spoiler-free list.

    New Characters

This latest season adds some great characters that add some depth and humor to the story, but these newbies will become fan favorites even if some don't make it to season 4. If I had to pick my favorite new character, it would be Robin played by actress Maya Hawke, she's primarily teamed up with Steve Harrington played by Joe Keery during the season and the pair make a great duo that I look forward to seeing more of.

    The Nostalgia

One of the great things about the series is the 80's nostalgia and this season more than any other gives us a full dose from start to finish. Season 3 is filled with eighties song, movie, TV, and cultural references. Every detail down to the cereal boxes is spot on. If you're a child of the '80s, you'll totally dig this gnarly season. With all that being said, the nostalgia doesn't distract or feel forced, it genuinely feels like something that was made in the 80s using modern technology.

    More Horror

There are some very squeamish moments and the horror elements have been turned up a notch or two. I'm not gonna lie, there were a few scenes that I looked away, it was too much for me and I never do that. The fight scenes this season were brutal, hard-hitting and fun to watch.

    The Visuals

WOW! Season 3 of 'Stranger Things' looks absolutely amazing, the visual effects, the cinematography, the sets, the creatures, everything looks top notch this season, it's clear that Netflix is not sparing any expense for its most popular franchise. I really love what the did with the Starcourt Mall, which plays a central theme in the season, it looks exactly like an 80's mall would have, down to the logos on the stores.

    The Cast

All the stuff above is great, but if it weren't for the great characters, acted by top talent, this show would have lasted two seasons. Standouts this season include Dacre Montgomery who plays Billy Hargrove, his performance was outstanding, he has a complex role to play this season and he absolutely nails it. Millie Bobby Brown again delivers an amazing performance as Eleven, she too goes through some complex emotions and scenarios this season and delivers an unforgettable performance. There is no weak spot in the 'Stranger Things' cast, the casting
