The games in Milan Cortina are not done yet. Athletes from all over the world are making their way to Italy for the 2026 Paralympic Winter Games, and a familiar face to many here in the Northland has been named as a host for NBC's coverage.

The Paralympic Winter Games will get underway on Friday, March 6th, with the opening ceremony, and the games will continue through the closing ceremony on March 15th.

NBC says it will have over 270 hours of coverage, including a record amount of primetime coverage on the flagship NBC network. Additional coverage will air on the Peacock streaming app, USA Network, and CNBC.

A Twin Ports Face Leading the Charge

Leading that coverage will be a group of 24 hosts, with four of them becoming NBCU's first disabled hosts of the Paralympic Winter Games. One of those names will be familiar to Twin Ports TV viewers: Courtney Godfrey.

Godfrey, who served as a morning anchor at Duluth's KBJR 6 around 2011 and is also a Paralympian, was named alongside Ahmed Fareed, Britney Eurton, Lacey Henderson, Chris Waddell, and Mallory Weggemann. Henderson, Weggemann, and Waddell are also former Paralympic athletes, joining Godfrey in what the network is calling a history-making team.

In a post on Instagram announcing the move, Godfrey said, "Obviously this is a bittersweet announcement as it means I had to give up on my own Paralympic dreams, choosing this over racing."

She also admitted, "I've always been a better TV anchor than I am a snowboarder," adding that this was an opportunity she simply could not pass up.

From the Northland to the Paralympic Stage

Godfrey lost her lower left leg in a boating accident in 2017. Since then, she has become an active and inspiring member of the amputee community, giving speeches, serving on boards, and thriving as a para-snowboard athlete. Now she takes that lived experience into one of the biggest broadcasting roles of the Paralympic Games.
