Aaron Carter catapulted to fame with the release of his sophomore album Aaron's Party (Come and Get It). His last studio album was released was in 2002 with Another Earthquake, but it looks like he's finally getting ready to drop another album later this year.

We had the opportunity to speak to him about his upcoming concert at Los Angeles' El Rey Theater, touring with a live band and what he thinks about Zayn Malik's leaving One Direction.

Check out our interview with Aaron below!

Can you tell me a little bit about your upcoming concert at the El Rey Theater?
Yeah, it's gonna be a great show! I have a couple of my friends coming through — Drake Bell is one of my buddies, he's coming through and he's gonna sing a song with me. I have a celebrity-famous Viner, his name is Matt Cutshall, who's going to be there as well. I'm bringing my live band so it's gonna be a live four-piece band, so anyone who's ever listened to Aaron's Party or "I Want Candy" before is gonna hear the real deal live version from me.

Do you prefer to tour with a live band?
Oh yeah, I definitely prefer that, for sure. It's just more entertaining and the fans get to see something and hear something that they've never heard before.

Speaking of Drake Bell, I know you guys have performed "I Want Candy" together. Do you think you'll ever collaborate on any future music or was that a one-shot deal?
No! It's actually quite possible that we might be doing some stuff in the future, so you'll just have to see and wait!

On that note, I know you have an album currently in the works. Any word as to when it might be released?
It's supposed to be this year, so we're just kind of waiting to see where the business goes, but it should be this year.

What's the sound of the record going to be like?
Pop dance music.

So it'll be in the same vein as music you've released in the past?
Absolutely, for sure.

You've been performing onstage for most of your life. Do you ever get stage fright or is that something you managed to conquer a long time ago?
Yeah, sometimes I get nervous. It depends on what the situation is, but I definitely get nervous.

Is there anything you do to calm your nerves when that happens or do you just use is to your advantage?
I kind of just use it to my advantage. It really motivates me and gives me that extra energy to get out there and perform a good show.

Do you have a favorite song to perform live?
"I Want Candy" is always really, really fun.

I don't know if you've heard, but Zayn from One Direction quit the band today, citing stress as his reason for leaving. Since you've been in the spotlight for most of your life, have you ever considered a total career change or even leaving the music industry?
Oh, sure, I'd love to join One Direction!

Do you have anything else to add?
I'm excited for the show and I can't wait to see everyone there!
