Alejandro Iñarritu Wins Best Director at 2016 Golden Globes

Alejandro G. Iñarritu won Best Director for The Revenant at the 2016 Golden Globes.

When the director took the stage he referenced the controversial and difficult making of the Leonardo DiCaprio survival movie. “I was lucky to be safe and rescued by incredible crew, cast, producers,” Iñarritu said. “But we all in this room know very well that pain is temporary, but film is forever. So who cares.” Apparently the Birdman filmmaker didn’t seem to think some crew members calling The Revenant shoot a “living hell“ was as important as making his film.

Iñarritu beat out Ridley Scott for The Martian, Tom McCarthy for Spotlight, Todd Haynes for Carol and George Miller for Mad Max: Fury Road. This is Iñarritu’s second Golden Globe.

Last year, Richard Linklater won Best Director for Boyhood.
