Seth Meyers Skewers Weinstein, Praises Hollywood Women in Golden Globes Opening
Seth Meyers, who addressed the 2018 Golden Globes crowd as "Ladies and remaining gentlemen" at the top of the Sunday night show (January 7), took shots at Harvey Weinstein and Donald Trump and gave big ups to the women in Hollywood during his opening monologue.
"It's 2018, marijuana is finally allowed and sexual harassment finally isn't — it's gonna be a good year," Meyers began to laughs. "It's been years since a white man was this nervous in Hollywood."
Meyers added that in light of several sexual abuse scandals, men in the room were likely a bit shaken.
"The male nominees in the room tonight, this is the first time in three months it won't be terrifying to hear your name read out loud," he said.
And, Meyers noted of Harvey Weinstein — whose history of sexual abuse in the industry has been publicized over the past few months: "Don't worry, he'll be back in 20 years when he becomes the first person ever booed during the In Memoriam."
"Thank you for all the amazing work and you continue to do. I look forward to you leading us in whatever comes next," he said.
