All-American Rejects Frontman Tyson Ritter Cast as Gregg Allman in Biopic
All-American Rejects frontman Tyson Ritter can add another notch to his acting resume. The blue-eyed crooner has just been cast as Gregg Allman in a biopic about the Allman Brothers.
Billboard reports that the 'Gives You Hell' singer will star in the flick alongside Wyatt Russell as Duane Allman. The working title of the film is 'Midnight Rider' after Gregg's autobiography.
Ritter and Russell will each perform vocals, guitar, piano and organ throughout the movie.
“The world knows Tyson as a extraordinary musician and performer; now the world will know what an amazing actor he is as well,” said director Randall Miller.
Ritter's previous roles include bit part as Colby in 'The House Bunny,' cameos as himself in '90210' and 'House' and an ongoing arcs on 'Parenthood' as Oliver Rome and 'Betas' as Dane. He also has two films currently in post-production. Production of 'Midnight Rider' is slated to begin in February in Savannah, Ga. Original Allman Brothers tracks will be used in the film as well as re-recorded performances by the Ritter and Russell.
This will be a challenge for Ritter, and likely a welcome one: Allman had two girlfriends commit suicide and was married to Cher -- in addition to his drama within his actual band (including the death of his brother).
