After serving up memories and meals for over five decades, this beloved Minnesota restaurant has officially turned off the lights for good.

It's a sad but true fact: It seems like you almost need a scorecard to keep up with the number of restaurants that have either recently closed or have said they're closing permanently here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

It was just earlier this year that the Dark Horse Bar & Eatery in St. Paul announced it was closing for good on Valentine's Day. Before that, diners in Woodbury and Lake Elmo were shocked when The Machine Shed, the longtime restaurant that had been open for over 20 years just off I-94, posted a sign on its doors saying it was now closed.

And just last month, we got word that Big River Pizza, the long-time popular restaurant famous for wood-fired pizzas, located at 280 5th Street East in St. Paul, was also closing up shop and cooking its last pie.

Of course, these closings aren't just limited to restaurants, either. Earlier this spring, news broke of another business that was closing its Minnesota location. Outdoor retailer The Sportsman's Guide announced back in early April that it was closing its warehouse and distribution facility in South St. Paul and moving out of state.

And now, a classic restaurant near the University of Minnesota has closed its doors permanently as well. The owners of Annie's Parlour on 14th Avenue in the Dinkytown neighborhood of Minneapolis announced that their last day in business was Wednesday, July 2nd, 2025.

A post on the Annie's Parlour Facebook page announced the news:

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news: Annie’s Parlour will be closing its doors for good, July 2, after more than fifty unforgettable years in Dinkytown.

According to KSTP-TV, Annie's had been most recently co-owned and operated by Anthony Rimarcik, whose late father started the original business around 1974, the story said. He explained that the reason for the closing was simply financial, telling KSTP that "We simply are going to lose more money being open than being closed," Rimarcik said in the story.

Seeing as the announcement was posted a day after the longtime restaurant permanently closed, the Facebook page post noted that gift cards purchased at Annie’s Parlour can still be redeemed at Convention Grill, located on Sunnyside Road in Edina.
