Minnesota might be home to 10,000 lakes, but when it comes to the best steakhouse chain in the country, we’re surprisingly short on options.

That's right, despite our love for a good steak here in the North Star State, the nation’s top-rated steakhouse chain has just one location throughout the entire state of Minnesota.

And it’s not just us here in the Bold North, steak is beloved across the entire country. According to a recent Fox News survey, steak ranks as America’s favorite meal, with nearly two-thirds of Americans even choosing it as their ideal last meal. In 2020 alone, Americans devoured a staggering 27.6 billion pounds of beef, accounting for over 21% of the world’s total beef consumption.

So you’d think the steakhouse that just claimed the top spot in a national ranking would have more than one restaurant here in the Gopher State, right? Nope. Just one.

That's the word according to this new survey from Tasting Table. So, how did they come up with these results? Tasting Table said they started by looking at the steakhouse chains in the U.S. that had at least 30 locations. (That rules out two classic Minnesota steakhouses, Murray's Steakhouse and Manny's Steakhouse, both of which only have one location in Minnesota, in downtown Minneapolis.)

Tasting Table then poured over various online searches, surveys, and reviews and compiled their results in a list of the top 13 steakhouse chains in the country. And the steakhouse chain coming in first on the Tasting Table list was... the Capital Grille.

Here's what their survey said about this steakhouse chain:

The Capital Grille is a knock-your-socks-off kind of place, from the moment you step foot in the door. With nearly 75 locations across the United States, The Capital Grille is one of the fancier steakhouses on our list. The menu features various steak cuts, of course, such as filet mignon, bone-in ribeye, and dry-aged New York strip.

And here in Minnesota, the only place you'll find the Capital Grille is at 801 Hennepin Avenue in downtown Minneapolis. That's it. If you don't want to head there, you'll have to head to either Kansas City, Missouri, or Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to find the next closest Capital Grille location. Both will take you a while to get there-- the Milwaukee Capital Grille is about 5 hours away from the Twin Cities, while Kansas City's Capital Grill is over 6-and-a-half hours away!

Steak is one of those truly American foods that is a favorite here in Minnesota and is also very popular in other parts of the world. But not every food we love here in the U.S. is also a favorite elsewhere. Keep scrolling to check out some familiar foods that raise eyebrows overseas!
