Yesterday afternoon (Thursday, October 15), the Stevens County Sheriff's Office in west-central Minnesota shared a press release involving a large metal object found in a cornfield the day before.

The release said that the sheriff's office received a phone call around 3:30 pm on Wednesday (October 13) about what was described as "foreign debris" found in a cornfield in Scott Township near Alberta, which is just southwest of Morris, Minnesota.

The object was discovered as corn was being harvested from the field.

Deputies went to investigate, finding a metal object about 11 feet in diameter that they said was "presumably a space object" in the field.

The reason it was theorized that it was a "space object" is because the metal object has signs of charring on it.

The responding deputy contacted the Minnesota Duty Officer, who notified federal agencies about the discovery. The sheriff's office says they are working with other state and federal agencies, with plans to "notify the owner of the debris and plan for removal from the field".

Officials say this should be possible thanks to serial numbers visible on the object.

The sheriff mentioned in their press release that their investigation determined there was no danger to the public from the incident.

Well...not after it landed, at least.

The farmer told KARE 11 reporter Lou Raguse that he thinks it is possible the object has been there for about 6 weeks based on the corn beneath the object.

Raguse also got some videos and photos from a local, which show the true scale of this object, which is roughly the size of a vehicle.

Some people have been commenting online about "aliens" and "UFOs", but recognizable serial numbers point toward this being something that was made on Earth that fell back to Earth.
