People often look for ways to get involved in the community - via service projects. On the national level, AmeriCorps provides those opportunities.  Many refer to the agency as the "Domestic Peace Corps".  A special event planned for Thursday, May 9 will give Northlanders a chance to learn more - and - offer opportunities for them to get involved right here at home.

The event is being billed as "Be More Minnesota" - and it's scheduled to happen from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bent Paddle Taproom.  Organizers with AmeriCorps have locally teamed up with Bent Paddle to provide information, food, prizes, and the chance to network.  During the event, current and former AmeriCorps members will be on hand to offer their insight into service opportunities that exist right here in our backyard.

Locally - in Minnesota - more than 2,000 people are involved with AmeriCorps - serving more than 200 communities around the state. People who join AmeriCorps commit to one year of service in exchange for a modest living stipend and an education award to help pay for tuition or student loans.  To learn more about the program, click here.
