A company that was born in Duluth is recalling one of their popular food products because of an undeclared allergen.

Bellisio Foods Inc., based in Minneapolis, has issued a recall for 3,927 pounds of their “Michelina’s Spaghetti with Meat Sauce.” According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, the spaghetti with meat sauce is being recalled due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen.

To identify the products covered by the recall look for the establishment number “EST. 18297” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The frozen spaghetti with meat sauce was shipped to retailers nationwide.

According to the USDA, "the problem was discovered when the company determined soy-containing ingredients may have comingled with the recalled product that does not normally contain soy."

Check your freezer for the recalled spaghetti with meat sauce and either throw it away or return it to place of purchase for a refund. Consumers with questions about the recall can call Bellisio Foods Inc. at (800) 446-5469.

Michelina's was founded in Duluth in 1918 by Jeno Paulucci, he named the company after his familial home in Italy, Bellisio Solfare. Michelina's is now doing business as Bellisio Foods Inc. and is owned by Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited of Thailand.

The company's products include a variety of frozen meals sold in the United States, Canada, Australia, Russia and China. The frozen meals are sold under the Michelina's, Boston Market, Atkins frozen, Authentic Asia, and other brands.
