News anchors and reporters cover many stories during their careers, but very few have taken one of those stories and turned it into a children's book. This Minnesota news anchor, however, did just that about a sheep that went on the lam in Northern Minnesota for three weeks.

The Great Sheep Escape: Northland Children's Book

You may remember the story of Brad the sheep. This adventurous sheep got loose in Two Harbors in November 2024. Over the next three weeks, Brad was spotted in Hermantown and Duluth before being caught in Proctor.

Brad traveled 35 miles from Two Harbors to Proctor, no doubt having the time of its life. It's the unknown part of his journey that Maria Vollom, morning anchor and reporter for FOX 21 in Duluth, explores in her new children's book.

The book, titled The Great Sheep Escape: Brad’s Big Adventure, is out now. It's described as a "sweet and silly bedtime tale full of charming illustrations, laugh-out-loud moments, and just the right amount of heart."

Vollom is uniquely familiar with the story, as she spent time covering the sheep sightings around the Northland at the time. She used that experience as inspiration to fulfill what she says is a lifetime dream of becoming an author.

Where to Find Brad's Big Adventure in Minnesota

The book is available online at BradTheSheep.com. It's also available at independent bookstores like Zenith Bookstore and the Bookstore at Fitger’s in Duluth.

Vollom will also be doing a book signing at the Bookstore at Fitger’s on Saturday, May 31st from 3 PM until 5 PM. She'll also be at Vanilla Bean in Two Harbors, where the adventure began, on Sunday, June 1st at 10 AM.

9 Unlikely New Names for Minnesota's Xcel Energy Center

After 25 years, Xcel Energy is stepping away from its naming rights deal with the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. A new sponsor is expected to sign a long-term, high-dollar agreement to rename the arena with the Minnesota Wild.

While several major brands are rumored to be in the running, we couldn’t help but think of some uniquely Minnesota companies that would make amazing (and hilarious) naming rights partners—if only they had the budget or interest.
