Two different families have a lot to celebrate with their incredible creations in the Build A Glensheen contest. For anybody has visited Glensheen Mansion it is breathtaking both inside and out and to try and replicate this in a model would be no easy task.

The Mortenson Family went from working on projects in their own home to turning their attention on building the Glensheen home. They were the winners for The Most Accurate category. (see picture above)  The Mortensons describe how they were able to put this all together via Glensheen's Facebook page. For most of the mansion they used scrap wood, paint stir sticks, glue, a staple gun, craft paint, and sharpie markers. The fountain was made with a wooden closet curtain rod mount and thermostat wire.  All kinds of saw were used - jig saw, chop saw, skill saw, and a hole saw. Mrs. Mortenson said "Although now that I know they can build a mansion in 3 days, it has really upped my expectations for getting our own house finished. LOL, My husband wants to note that this is not to scale."

The Lassen Family of Cohasset MN were the winners of The Most Creative category. They also described the process on The Glensheen Facebook page saying the inspiration started from a anchovy can which they used 2 of to replicate the fountain. Other items included Glue sticks...dried beans and split peas (for grass) shredded Easter grass...sheet foam...Hot glue...So much glue!! And Christmas village fencing,  card stock and Vellum for the windows (whatever that is?) They went on to say " We incorporate some math...art and measuring skills! The kids would love to see the real thing! Thanks for the challenge! Lisa, Jeremy, Joel & Jacob."

I spoke with Jane Pederson Marketing Manager for Glensheen and she said "It was very difficult narrowing down the winners because they had so many great entries."  Pederson went on to post on The Glensheen Facebook Page "that because all of the submissions were so amazing, we will be sharing the remaining submissions and their stories throughout the rest of this week!"
