Mayor Emily Larson announced Saturday morning that the roadway loop around Enger Tower, consisting of Skyline Parkway and Hank Jensen Drive, is temporarily closed to vehicular traffic. The move was made as part of "a continued effort to offer dedicated walking and biking opportunities to area residents" according to a Facebook post on the city's page.

Mayor Larson shared in a separate Facebook post that this will "provide you with another opportunity to get outside and move while allowing for social distance."

Part of Governor Walz's 'Stay At Home' order did specify outdoor activities as a legitimate reason to leave your home during a period when people are being told to stay at home as much as possible in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.

The mayor's post goes on to explain that this is the fourth area closed to motorized traffic by the city for the purpose of providing a place for walkers and cyclists. The other places include:

  • The Seven Bridges Road one mile section usually opened as of April 1st
  • A half mile section of Lincoln Park Drive within Lincoln Park itself
  • The early prep, clean and clearing of a one mile section of the Munger Trail
