City of Superior Selects New Police Chief
The City of Superior has announced who will be the new Police Chief as Chief Nicholas Alexander prepares to retire.
The city says that e effective January 27th, 2024 Captain Paul Winterscheidt will assume the role of Chief of the Superior Police Department and its over 55 sworn officers. Winterscheidt was selected by the Superior Police and Fire Commission after a comprehensive selection process.
Maria Cuzzo, Police and Fire Commission member says in a press release, "The Police and Fire Commission is proud to support incoming Superior Police Department Chief Paul Winterscheidt as he prepares to assume this new position. He has led many innovative program development projects. We wish him well in the future.”
Winterscheidt has over 18 years of service with the Superior Police Department, Superior Mayor Jim Paine says, " His vision for a department focused on compassion, empathy, respect, and justice makes me confident that, under his leadership, the Superior Police Department will remain the most innovative and effective police force in Wisconsin and serve as an example to law enforcement agencies nationwide."
"I am honored to lead a department that prioritizes open communication, inclusivity, and responsiveness to the needs of our residents. Together with our dedicated officers, we will work tirelessly to create a safe and secure environment where everyone can thrive," incoming Chief Winterscheidt said.
According to his LinkedIn page, Winterscheidt worked on a variety of programs including Pathways to Hope, a program designed to offer treatment to individuals who are addicted to Methamphetamine, Heroin, and/or Opioids versus jail. The Superior Police Department has teamed up with the Lake Superior Community Health Center to provide next-day access to treatment.
