If taking literally the phrase "drink the tears of my enemies" is something you'd like to do, this might be right up your alley.

Fans of Wisconsin's NFL franchise will be one of a select few football teams where the opportunity to do just that will be an option after the announcement of something called "Crierball" from a popular beverage maker.

The Green Bay Packers are linked to the new, limited beverage that will contain the tears of (presumably) one of their rival fanbases.

What the heck is "Crierball"?

The makers of Fireball Whisky recently announced a new beverage they'll be crafting. A special edition of the cinnamon-flavored whisky being made this year will literally include the tears of losing rival football fans.

They're calling the limited-edition whisky "Crierball" (based on the Fireball name), which will "promise the ultimate bragging rights next season".

The idea is that they're going to collect tears from the fans of losing teams in big rivalry games to work into the recipe for this special whisky blend.

How does that work? Is it safe?

Fireball says they will have special "Fireball Tear Collectors" in easily identifiable red uniforms outside of a handful of college and NFL stadiums after big games to ask for tear donations from what they call "weeping, defeated fans".

You know, because the first thing an upset fan wants to do is donate their tears so their rival can savor them.

Besides that little plothole, Fireball says they will capture tears from these fans in sterile jars, seal them up, and then safely transport them to a secure facility where the collected tears will undergo a process to prep them for use.

They describe the process as "meticulous", saying it will take months to run the tears through an elaborate sterilization and distillation process before they will be used in a whisky that they say will be ready for next season.

It might sound a bit salty (figuratively speaking - they're distilling it), but also so sweet for the victors...I guess? It isn't really my thing, but it might be yours.

How are the Packers involved in this?

Fireball identified and announced 6 different rival football games where they will be in attendance near the stadium to do their tear collection.

One of those dates will be in Chicago at the Packers vs. Bears game on November 17. Now, I'll admit that I titled this story with the presumption that the Packers will beat the Bears in Chicago, but the wildcard here is that it might go the other way. That would create a situation where the fans left weeping are those of Green Bay and not the Bears.

Fireball doesn't specifically say they will have these bottles labeled as the tears of a specific fanbase, so it isn't clear if there will be bottles marketed toward the winning fanbase or if it will just be a combined vat of all of the losing team's fan tears.

It probably isn't important...It is just a funny marketing ploy. But I figured I'd point that out in case you were curious.

Here's a look at all of the rivalry games they're visiting:

  • November 2: Florida Gators vs. Georgia Bulldogs in Athens, GA
  • November 10: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys in Dallas, TX
  • November 17: Green Bay Packers vs. Chicago Bears in Chicago, IL
  • November 17: Baltimore Ravens vs. Pittsburgh Steelers in Pittsburgh, PA
  • November 30: Auburn Tigers vs. Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, AL
  • November 30: Michigan Wolverines vs. Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus, OH

If you're a Vikings or Lions fan, the tears of either team's fans might be acceptable.

If I had to guess though, most fans of NFC North teams are probably hoping for Packers fans to be the ones left crying on November 17 if for no other reason than the 30 years of consistently outstanding quarterback play and constant discussion of being the favorite in the division.
