Details For The West Duluth Memorial Day Parade 2023
Marching bands, antique cars, military groups, floats, and more will soon be lining up as the West Duluth tradition continues with this year's Memorial Day Parade.
The Duluth Women of Today are once again hosting this annual West Duluth event. The Duluth Women of Today is a volunteer organization that started in 2004 and tackles projects that they are approached for and have a passion for. The organization also helps develop skills that allow members to become successful leaders, help raise funds, and take on community projects.
This Monday (Memorial Day May 29th), the West Duluth tradition continues as the parade will begin around 12:30 pm. As always, The starting point is 59th Avenue West and will run east on Grand to Central Avenue, then south on Central Avenue to Ramsey Street, and east on Ramsey Street to Mike Colalillo Drive, where it will end.
No parking will be allowed on either side of Grand Avenue along the parade route. There will also be “No Parking” signs posted along the route. I've been going to this parade every year since I was a kid and I can’t wait to carry on the tradition with my kids and see what this year's parade has in store.
This parade has been in existence since 1871, talk about history! Unfortunately, registration to participate in the parade has closed, however, for those that are participating there are also a few dos and don'ts for the parade:
- If you have a float in the parade, it is hey okay to hand out candy and/or informational materials about your organization.
- However, you are asked to respect the veterans by not distributing any politically-oriented materials.
- If you are a military organization, please supply your own federal flag.
Buses will use Cody Street as the east/west detour route for those that take the DTA.
