After weeks of discussion, the Duluth City Council acted last night on two hot button issues, hookah bars and electronic cigarettes.

The council decided to ban hookah bars within city limits and to restrict the use of e-cigs to to the same restrictions faced by smokers of good ol' cigarettes.

According to the Star Tribune, Councilor Jennifer Julsrud introduced the ordinances to "protect kids, and ... clean air,"

But not all Councilors agreed with the new ordinance, Jay Fosle opposed, saying there were greater concerns that needed to be addressed, "what we should really be concerned about is the use of heroin and ecstasy." He is also worried about the loss of much needed money for the city, he says "We're going against businesses that would bring more money onto our tax rolls."

The ordinances will go into effect next month.
