Duluth Fire Department Rescues Pet Bird From High-rise Building
The Duluth Fire Department to the rescue! A pet bird escaped and ended up in an unlikely spot and needed some help.
Nina, a gray, white, and green colored cockatiel, got free from her home and decided to hang out on a 6th story window sill at St. Luke's Hospital. After a frantic search, the owner spotted the bird and called the Duluth Fire Department for the assist.

The Duluth Fire Department arrived at the scene with Tower 1, a 2020 Pierce Arrow XT firetruck with a mid-mount 100' ladder, they extended the ladder to the sixth floor with two firefighters and a bird cage in the bucket. Nina was eventually coaxed into the cage and safely returned to her owner.
This isn't the first time the Duluth Fire Department has done a daring cockatiel rescue, back in 2012 they rescued Twerpie the cockatiel from a tree after the 16-year-old bird flew the coop and was found two days later high up in an elm tree.
It turns out, Twerpie was afraid of heights, the pet bird would fly up to a spot, like a shelf, and need help getting back down, so when the owners found the bird in the tree, they called the Duluth Fire Department for a hand, they arrived on the scene and rescued the bird from the tree.
Big shoutout to the Duluth Fire Department for taking the time to help out not only the humans of Duluth, but our pets as well. Stay safe and keep up the amazing work!
