This is an awesome outdoor activity for the family coming up this month!

The City of Duluth's Parks & Recreation team just announced details for their annual glow hike event scheduled for later this month, and it looks like a fun time!

While this isn't specifically Halloween-themed, the event has the potential to be a family-friendly pre-Halloween activity that's complete with a delicious fireside snack!

The City of Duluth's Glow Hike is being hosted along Waabizheshikana - The Marten Trail in the Riverside neighborhood. Once known as the Western Waterfront Trail, it was renamed in 2019 to Waabizheshikana, which is "The Marten Trail" in Anishinaabe.

The trail winds along the St. Louis River from S 63rd Ave W in the Irving neighborhood of Duluth southward to Spring Street in Riverside. You can see a trail map here.

The glow hike is a self-guided hike along this trail, illuminated by glow sticks to add a unique glow to this evening hike. The City of Duluth's Parks & Recreation team has been doing a version of this event at the end of October every year since 2022.

The hike event will begin at 6 pm, and go until 8 pm on Friday, October 24. The evening will offer a couple of different experiences, depending on when you decide to attend. From 6 until 6:30 pm, it will be more of a twilight hike, with some remaining glow in the sky after the 6:05 pm sunset.

If you decide to attend after 6:30, you'll get more of the nighttime hike experience with less natural light.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own glow sticks, but there will be extras available at the trailhead gathering location at Indian Point Campground, located at 7000 Pulaski Street in Duluth.

I mentioned snacks...there will be a bonfire with the opportunity to roast marshmallows before or after your hike!

The trail is an all-weather gravel trail with rolling terrain. This should make it pretty easy for most participants.

The photos they shared in the event promo photo they shared on social media offer some cool ideas to make some fun glowstick "costumes" to add some extra fun for your hike!
