The Duluth Police Department is currently accepting applications for the 2017 Duluth Citizen Police Academy

Applicants for this year's Academy will be selected on a first come, first serve basis and the Duluth Police Department will conduct a background check prior to acceptance. This is a learning process to provide an opportunity give citizens a better understanding of police operations and how they serve our community.

The course is 11 weeks long of both classroom and field instructions regarding various responsibilities of Duluth Police Officers. Attendees will learn proper procedures and techniques used by officers in different scenarios.

Class attendees receive information and instruction on such issues as:

  • Use of force
  • Narcotics enforement
  • Patrol operations
  • Criminal investigations and death investigation
  • Demonstrations by the K-9 Unit

The 2017 Citizen Police Academy will begin Wednesday evening, March 15th (6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.) and run each Wednesday for 11 weeks. If you're interested, you are asked to attend most if not all of the sessions.
