Like so many other events that have been canceled around the area and the country, this years Duluth Superior Pride 2020 Festival at Bayfront Park Has Been Cancelled. According to the D.S. Pride Facebook Page they have released the following statement. "The Duluth Superior Pride Committee held a special meeting on Tuesday May 26 to discuss the upcoming 2020 Duluth Superior Pride Festival. In lieu of the COVID – 19 Pandemic and uncertainty of the status of the safety in holding such an event, the Committee voted to cancel 2020’s (in-person) Pride Festival held annually at Bayfront Festival Park, Labor Day weekend. This year’s festival would have been held on Saturday September 5th."

For the past 33 years this festival has been held and not always under the most pleasant circumstances. Before Herb Bergson did it in 2004, no Duluth mayor had issued a proclamation of support of the festival or even a parade, everything was held in Superior. Now for the last 16 years thanks to open minded people in positions of power in the city of Duluth, and lot's of hard work behind the scenes the festival is now held at the premiere outdoor facility in the city, and is attended by people all over the world! The Pride parade is still held in Superior every year as a way of celebrating both cities. Worldwide Pride month is celebrated in June, but the Twin Ports holds it's celebration for Labor Day weekend so as not to have to compete with other Pride festivals around the country.

This years pride committee wants to assure the community that they are discussing alternatives to an in person festival such as a virtual celebration, art show, musical entertainment and other events to keep this annual event a time of true celebration for the Duluth Superior area.
