FDA: These 16 Dog Food Brands May Be Giving Canines Heart Disease

A shocking new report by the FDA says certain dog food brands may be giving your dog heart disease.

The Food and Drug Administration announced the news Thursday (June 27th) in a press release, saying they have started to investigate reports of DCM, or canine dilated cardiomyopathy, in dogs consuming certain types of pet food.

The FDA has ruled out the breeds of dogs as a factor here, as the cases reported include dog breeds that aren't known to have the disease in their genes.

According to their report, they are investigating over 500 cases and 16 different brands of dog food, including:

• Acana
• Blue Buffalo
• California Natural
• Earthborn Holistic
• Fromm
• Merrick
• Natural Balance
• Nature's Domain
• Nature's Variety
• NutriSource
• Nutro
• Orijen
• Rachael Ray Nutrish
• Taste Of The Wild
• Zignature

Most of the dog food in reported cases was dry but there are a few cases where raw and moist foods were consumed.

Pet owners are encouraged to reach out to a veterinarian at the very first sign of the disease, which can include a cough, poor breathing and low energy.
