USPS Will Halt Mail To Minnesota Homes With This Problem
Working for the United States Postal Service can be a thankless job, and often a dangerous one. According to new statistics, attacks on postal workers increased last year, and a new awareness campaign hopes to reverse that trend.
One of the biggest hazards a postal worker can face on the job caused over 6,000 injuries last year. Not only can it be a terrible event for the mail carrier, but it can also be very costly for the homeowner.

Dog Bites Caused Over 6,000 Injuries in 2024 - Minnesota City Ranks High
The new campaign, called "Secure Your Dog, Keep Deliveries on Track," launched on June 1st. The Postal Service hopes it will help reduce the number of dog-related injuries each year by offering safety tips.
The Postal Service also released a list of the top 20 cities with the most dog bites, and unfortunately, one Minnesota city made the list. The only city in the state to appear is Minneapolis, which ranked number 11 with 30 reported bites or attacks in 2024. Los Angeles topped the list with 77 attacks.

Several other Midwest cities ranked in the top 10 on the list, including Cleveland, Cincinnati, St. Louis, and Chicago.
USPS Tips to Prevent Dog Attacks
To help avoid dog attacks, the Postal Service recommends:
- Keeping your dog in a separate room or area during the time your postal worker typically arrives
- Making sure all gates are closed if your dog is outside
- Keeping dogs secured on a leash
- Never accepting mail directly from the carrier while your dog is present
- Avoiding letting children retrieve the mail from the carrier
Attacks Can Be Costly for Dog Owners
The USPS reminds dog owners that an injury to a postal employee can result in thousands of dollars in damages, including medical bills, lost wages, uniform replacement, and pain and suffering.
If a dog is deemed a problem, the Postal Service may stop delivering mail to that home until the issue is resolved. It's a serious reminder to help keep everyone safe—postal workers are just doing their job, and no one should face danger delivering the mail.
