What Grandma’s Had To Say About Closing Miller Hill Restaurant Location In Duluth

It was announced yesterday (April 28) that Grandma's Saloon & Grill near the Miller Hill Mall will be closing very soon, with the building being sold to a business with different plans for the location.

Grandma's has been operating three different Northland locations for many years now, with two in Duluth and one on the Iron Range in Virginia, Minnesota. In early May, that number will shrink down to two locations.

As Grandma's Saloon & Grill shared yesterday, the eatery's operations will conclude on Sunday, May 3.

After closing, the building will pivot to a different direction as the cannabis company Vireo Growth Inc. takes over the building, located at the corner of Mall Drive and Maple Grove Road in Duluth.

In the announcement about the closure, Grandma's explained that after 35 years of serving customers, the decision to sell the building and consolidate down to two locations comes in the wake of post-pandemic consumer habits.

One particular area they say has changed most is late-night dining. Grandma's President Brian Daugherty said that as the landscape has changed in recent years, "it’s time to consolidate our efforts”.

While the Miller Hill location will be closing, Daugherty shared gratitude for all of the customer patronage and support of the location over the years, adding, "We assure our fans that there’s always a table waiting for them at our Canal Park and Virginia locations".

Grandma's says as they close the Miller Hill location that they are prioritizing the location's staff, offering relocation opportunities for anyone wishing to keep working for Grandma's at their other restaurants.

Besides the two remaining Grandma's Saloon & Grill locations, the company also owns Bellisio's, Adventure Zone, and The Garden Event Center, all located in Duluth's Canal Park.
