DEADLY DEFECT: Popular Gun Safe Model Recalled Across Minnesota & Wisconsin
A popular gun safe, designed to prevent unauthorized access to firearms, is being recalled due to a critical flaw that could allow children or other unauthorized individuals to open it.
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall on over 133,000 gun safes that were sold between July 2020 and November 2023 at Costco and other retailers all over America.
What Brand of Gun Safes Are Being Recalled?
The affected models are the Sanctuary Quick Access, a smaller safe suitable for handguns, and the Sports Afield Home Defense, a larger safe that can hold up to four rifles. Both safes are constructed of black steel, with the Sports Afield model featuring the company's logo on the front.

What Do I Do If I Have This Gun Safe?
The recall is due to a potential malfunction with the biometric fingerprint scanner, which may allow unauthorized access to the safe's contents. If you own either of these models, please discontinue use of the biometric feature immediately by removing the batteries and contact the manufacturer (saconsumer6983@sedgwick.com) for a repair kit. Access can still be gained using the key.
The gun safes, manufactured in China and imported/sold by SA Consumer Products Inc., of Rolling Meadows, Illinois, sold for between $500 and $600 for the large model and $75 - $100 for the smaller version.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission warns that continuing to use the biometric feature could result in serious injury or death, fortunately, no injuries have been reported, but there have been over 75 reports of the safes being opened by unauthorized users.
