If you’ve ever considered running a marathon but immediately thought, “there is no way,” you might want to pivot and consider something far more achievable, a movie marathon. As one Hobbit put it, “I’m going on an adventure,” and honestly, this one comes with stadium seating and reclining seats.

In 2024, Marcus Theatres hosted a 12-plus-hour marathon featuring all three Lord of the Rings films. At the time, it was surprising to see just how many seats were sold. It made sense that fans would show up, but seeing multiple theaters filled with Tolkien diehards proved there was serious demand for an all-day Middle-earth experience.

That enthusiasm clearly stuck, because Marcus Theatres is bringing the idea back again, this time with another Tolkien story.

The marathon begins at noon and will include short intermissions between films, which feels appropriate for a story that understands the power of second breakfast. The final movie is scheduled to start at 6:30 PM, turning your Saturday into a full “there and back again” kind of commitment.

Minnesota Theaters Join the Adventure

Marcus Theatres will host the marathon at several Minnesota locations, including Duluth, Rochester, St. Cloud, and the Twin Cities. Tickets are on sale now for $18 each.

If you missed the last Lord of the Rings marathon, or if you went and immediately thought, “yeah, I’d do that again,” this is your chance to spend the day in Middle-earth with a theater full of fans who absolutely understand why you are quoting Gandalf at the concession stand.
