We've already had a pretty mild start to our summer with stretches of warmer than average weather. It looks like after a brief cool down on Thursday that mercury will be rising in time for 4th of July weekend. The National Weather Service expects heat indexes to be well into the 90's for the busy weekend. They even are forecasting record breaking temperatures.

For Duluth, the National Weather Service predicts a high of 90 for Saturday and 91 for Sunday. That's close too, but not quite breaking the records of 93 and 91 respectively.

However, you head up to International Falls and we could see some records break there. They forecast a high of 94 on Saturday which would be two degrees from the record set last year of 92. Sunday is supposed to be even hotter with temps of 95.

Across the region we will see highs above 90 all the way from Brainerd, Minnesota to Ashland, Wisconsin.

We are expecting a chance at some showers and thunderstorms possible for Sunday afternoon into the overnight, which hopefully won't disrupt any firework displays. In the Twin Ports the rain isn't supposed to arrive until after 2am as of now. You can check out our Fireworks Guide of 2021 to find one near you. Duluth's show will be at 10:10PM. Superior's will be at 10PM at Barker's Island.

There also are a handful of firework shows on Saturday night, and even one of Friday night.

With this warm stretch of weather, make sure your pets have a shaded place to stay with lots of water. Check on those who don't have air conditioning and be sure to hydrate!
