It may be Mother’s Day, but Sony doesn’t want your dad to feel left out. The studio has released a teaser for the first Inferno trailer, along with a couple of posters offering a sneak peek at the finale to The Da Vinci Code trilogy. And it looks like the series is prepared to go out with a bang, as Tom Hanks is literally holding the fate of the world in his hands.

As you can see in the teaser, the plot of Inferno — and the future of mankind — rests with Tom Hanks, who reprises his role as Robert Langdon in Ron Howard’s sequel. Langdon is mysteriously given a device that, when activated, will immediately wipe out half of Earth’s population. If he doesn’t hit the switch, then humanity will go completely extinct in 100 years. It’s sort of like the plot of The Box (bet you hadn’t thought about that one in a while) on a much, much bigger scale.

Not only does Inferno feature a major high-stakes plot, but that teaser has a couple of great shots — specifically, that giant Shining-like cascade of blood or whatever.

We’ll know more when the first trailer arrives tomorrow, May 9. Inferno also stars Felicity Jones, Irrfan Khan, Omar Sy and Sidse Babett Knudsen, and hits theaters on October 28. In the meantime, check out the official synopsis and new posters below:

Academy Award® winner Ron Howard returns to direct the latest bestseller in Dan Brown’s ("Da Vinci Code") billion-dollar Robert Langdon series, Inferno, which finds the famous symbologist (again played by Tom Hanks) on a trail of clues tied to the great Dante himself. When Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, he teams up with Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones), a doctor he hopes will help him recover his memories. Together, they race across Europe and against the clock to foil a deadly global plot.
