Two New Minnesota Salmonella Cases Tied to Amazon-Sold Supplement

St. Paul, MN (MinnesotaNow) - Minnesota health officials say two people in the state have become ill with salmonella linked to a dietary supplement blamed for a multistate outbreak.

Product Sold Through Amazon Under Investigation

A statement from the Minnesota Department of Health and says both patients became ill last month after consuming moringa capsules from the brand tnvitamins that were purchased through Amazon. Neither person required hospitalization, and both have recovered from the illness.

The Department of Health is warning people not to consume the tnvitamins brand of moringa leaf powder capsules.

Dozens Sickened Across 32 States

According to the statement from the health department, 97 people in 32 states were sickened after consuming the product from November of last year through February. Seven of the previous cases were in Minnesota.

Five Hospitalizations in Minnesota

Five of the Minnesota patients were among the 26 people who were hospitalized after falling ill. No deaths have been reported.

Symptoms of Salmonella Infection

Salmonella infection symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fever. The symptoms usually appear between 12 and 96 hours after exposure but can be delayed for up to two weeks. Most people who develop the illness recover in about a week, but 28% of laboratory-confirmed cases require hospitalization.
