This Unbelievable Minnesota Mini Golf Course Also Has Live Animals, Amazing Sculptures
If you want a truly unique mini golf experience, there are a few places in Minnesota that stand out as especially memorable.
You could call me a bit of a mini golf aficionado, and I'm always looking to try out new, unique courses that will leave me with some fun memories.
A few examples of places I've played that are on another level include the Brainerd area's Pirate's Cove, The Puttery in Minneapolis, and the Centennial Lakes Putting Course in Edina..
Another one that I got the chance to play recently is a Twin Cities area hidden gem west of Lake Minnetonka in Minnetrista, Minnesota. While it is a little off the beaten path, the secret is out on this place that offers way more than just mini golf!
Mini Golf at Big Stone Mini Golf Course
While the mini golf might be your primary reason for heading here, there's more to do! More about that in a bit. But, how's the golf?
The course at Big Stone Mini Golf is 14 holes, each with a different theme and name.

The first impression at Big Stone is strong, having to navigate through the "dead tree forest" of logs, making for a maze of obstacles to navigate your ball through.
The course has sculptures and unique obstacles throughout a beautiful, shaded course that's a real joy to play.
The creativity of this course has a feel kind of like you stepped into a child's storybook, with things like a beautiful flower arch on one hole, a giant log you have to hit your ball into on another, and giant metallic plant life sculptures on other holes.
There's even a hole that you play completely under an overturned boat!
The course is fun, quirky, and also challenging! If you look at the scorecard and feel disappointed by the fact that there are only 14 holes instead of 18, I promise you'll get plenty of challenge out of the course at Big Stone Mini Golf.
The course is a par-56 course with only 4 par-3 holes. The majority of them are par-4 and par-5.
Live animals at Big Stone Mini Golf!
There are farm animals on the grounds that add another unique element to your visit. Right near the first hole is an area with some goats. If you're lucky, they might even wander up to the fence to say hello.
There are also some ducks and other farm animals around the grounds, including this cow you can see above.

If that wasn't enough, just wait. There's even more!
Sculptures EVERYWHERE at Big Stone Mini Golf
The mini golf course itself has plenty of cool sculptures, like the sunflowers or the pig and chicken above, but it goes even beyond that. The grounds include a whole tour that heads away from the mini golf course, where you can see all sorts of imaginative creations.
From the fishing frog-like creature above to the massive mammoth below, there are dozens of creations around the sculpture gardens. The sculpture garden is on the grounds thanks to a partnership the course has with Big Stone Advancing Arts, which is located in Mound, Minnesota.
Along with the sculpture walk and animals, there are also some fun, big games to play! How about checkers or a life-sized game of chess? There are also a couple of big table tennis games and other fun and games waiting for you. It's easy to spend a few hours here!
Visiting Big Stone Mini Golf
If you're looking to plan a visit, they open sometime in April, weather-permitting, and remain open through the summer season. They generally stay open through October and into November as long as they can, based on the weather.
The course opens at 9:30 am 7 days a week, closing at sunset. They do note on their website that they might deviate from those hours if the weather is uncooperative.
The cost to play is $14 per adult and $12 for kids 8 and under. Note that they only accept cash or checks, no credit cards. So you'll want to plan ahead on making sure you have the right form of payment before visiting.
They do not accept reservations, with golf being first-come, first-served. During busy times, you might have to wait to play - but as you saw above, there's lots to see and do while you wait!
You can find Big Stone Mini Golf at 7110 County Rd 110 W, in Minnetrista, MN.
