Summer community celebration season in the Northland is in full swing, and Esko's Fun Days celebration is underway.

The greater Twin Ports area community's biggest summer event kicked off with National Night Out festivities at the Esko Sports Complex on Tuesday night, and the Esko Historical Society's medallion hunt kicked off yesterday at 10 am.

As we head toward the weekend, the number of events ramps up, with the final day of festivities for this year's Esko Fun Days being Saturday, August 8.

Here's a look at the highlights of activities and events for the rest of this year's Esko Fun Days celebration:

Thursday, August 6

Thursday's festivities include another day of Medallion Hunt fun, with the clue for the day announced at noon.

People of all ages can enjoy bingo at the Esko school cafeteria Thursday evening from 6:30 until 8:30 pm. You're encouraged to bring cash for bingo cards and, get this, ice cream treats!

After bingo, you can head outside for a stargazing night opportunity in the Esko School Forest. There will be charts and a telescope available to use, plus we're in Perseid meteor shower time, so you might be able to see some meteors, too!

Friday, August 7

If the kids want to hoop it up, there is a 3-on-3 basketball tournament starting at 10 am for kids in grades 3-8, broken down into different age divisions. You can register here.

There will be a pair of movie showings at the Esko School Theater, one for the younger kids and the other for teens. The younger kids' movie will be a showing of "Up" at 2:30 pm, and the teen movie is "The Goonies" at 8:30 pm.

Also going on Friday is a continuation of the medallion hunt, with the day's clue at 3 pm and a free evening at the Esko Historical Museum with games, history activities, demonstrations, and a s'mores bar. Yum!

Saturday, August 8

The grand finale of this year's Esko Fun Days includes a 5K starting at 8 am, and the Grand Parade getting going at 11 am to start the day of fun.

Through the middle of the day, from 11:30 am until 2:30 pm, there will be games, activities, and food in Northridge Park. Activities and games include bounce houses, a dunk tank, a "Ninja Anywhere" course, and other things.
