Who would do such a thing? A driver on a county road in rural St. Louis County spotted two dogs on the side of the road. They didn't look like strays, but lost dogs. When they got out of their car, they noticed the other younger dogs in the woods, all huddled together in a pack.

I talked to Nicole from Animal Allies today. Their staff took in 14 pets yesterday alone. 9 of those pets were these dogs that Nicole figures were abandoned.

Typically you don't see stray packs of dogs running around. Unless these dogs all escaped from a residence, it's more likely they were abandoned. Sometimes people think it would be profitable to get into breeding, but then find out they can't do it, and abandon the pets. It's really sad.

Stranger Things Start To 2026

Making the most of it, Animal Allies decided to name the dogs after the characters in Stranger Things. The dogs' names are Hopper, Joyce, Eleven, Nancy, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, and Steve Harrington.

The intake for each animal that comes into the shelter costs at least $100 in expenses to start. Even more money is needed to help with the animals before they find new homes. With 14 pets in one day, it's a very expensive start to the year.
