Hartel’s Disposal Donates $75,000 To Duluth Salvation Army
Hartel's Disposal started a new community challenge this year. Called the 'Hartel's Holiday Impact Challenge,' the community initiative was designed to inspire local businesses to support neighbors in need during the holiday season.
Hartel's invited businesses to "dump their donations and double the difference," by contributing to Hartel's donation cart at the Duluth Salvation Army. They promised to match any contributions up to $75,000.
About $8,000 was raised during the two-week campaign. Hartel's Disposal decided to donate its full $75,000 commitment.

Cyndi Lewis, Community Engagement Director with the Duluth Salvation Army, thanks Hartel's for their deep generosity.
“Launching a new campaign always comes with a learning curve, What mattered most to Hartel’s Disposal was the impact on our community, not the final tally. Their decision to honor the full match reflects an extraordinary belief in our mission and the work we do all year.
Hartel plans to do the challenge next year and build momentum over time. Next year, they will start the Hartel Holiday Impact Challenge earlier in November to allow businesses more time to plan their giving.

Dan Hartel, owner of Hartel's Disposal, sees this as an investment in our community.
“This first year helped us learn how to better engage businesses moving forward. Revamping the program and starting earlier next year will allow even more organizations to participate, and regardless of participation levels, we felt strongly about standing behind our commitment to The Duluth Salvation Army and the vital services they provide every day.”
The $75,000 gift will support the Duluth Salvation Army's programs, which provide food assistance, housing support, youth programming, and emergency services to individuals and families throughout the year.
