If You Bought This at a Minnesota Costco, Throw It Out Immediately — No Joke

I was today years old when I learned that Costco contacts customers directly for product recalls. I never really thought about it, but it makes perfect sense. They have a record of all your in-store purchases because you scan your membership card before paying.

Costco can notify customers about nearly all recalls, but there’s one kind of purchase they can’t track, and that item has now been flagged as extremely dangerous. The risk is serious enough that Costco is warning people not to bring it back to the store at all.

You Don’t Need a Membership to Buy Alcohol at Costco in Some States

Costco has a record of everything you buy in the store, except for alcohol. Several states, including Minnesota, prohibit requiring membership for alcohol sales. This means you can take advantage of Costco's liquor store even if you aren't a member.

Costco Recalls Exploding Alcohol Sold in Minnesota

Costco has issued a recall for bottles of its Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene due to a risk of the bottles shattering while unopened. The affected bottles were sold between April 25 and August 26 in 12 states across the Midwest, including Illinois, Iowa, and Ohio.

According to a notice sent to customers, the bottles may explode or break open even without being handled. Costco DOES NOT want you to return unopened bottles.

Instead, people are asked to carefully dispose of them by wrapping the bottles in paper towels, placing them in a plastic bag, and discarding them in household trash.  Customers can bring the recall notice to any Costco location for a full refund.
