I talked on the phone with Kristine Greer, one of the organizers of this year's Light Duluth Teal. This year looks a little different than other years.

This year Kristine said it's going to be called, "Shine Teal for MOCA". Instead of Light Duluth Teal (just for this year). Due to the pandemic, people can't safely gather together at the DECC for the big gala that they usually hold. This year it's a free virtual gala event.

Greer says it'll take place online on Friday, September 25th at 7 p.m. This event includes an inspirational program and an auction with several great items to bid on. There are some wonderful Minnesota get-aways and more! Anyone from across the nation and beyond can watch this event. They are asking people to sign up for free. at mnovarian.org

On September 25th and 26th, Duluth will be lit up. There are five structures and buildings that will be shining teal all weekend long, Enger Tower, Glensheen Mansion, the DECC, Northland Country Club, and the Silos at Pier B...courtesy of Duluth Event Lighting.

I can also touch on the pandemic and why women with ovarian cancer need us now more than ever, as well as how we're getting creative with our events during these challenging times.

The main points of lighting up the structures for the weekend are this:

  • Educate women and the community about symptoms of ovarian cancer
  • Raise money for ovarian cancer research
  • Provide support and hope for patients and families

During the pandemic, women are unsure of the symptoms and sometimes don't know what to do next and are stuck at home asking questions. To find out more and learn about the symptoms click here.

The virtual event is the main fundraiser this year and the organization is hoping for a good turnout.
