A familiar face is leaving Twin Ports television.  After four and a half years, KBJR-TV Sports Director Matt Halverson has announced his departure from the station, effective Friday, August 26.

Although he hasn't disclosed what his next plans are, we can surmise that it probably won't involve television - at least not in a capacity similar to his current one.  Halverson said:

"Ultimately, it's time for me to transition into a more "normal" work situation that allows me to see my wife and family on a more consistent basis."

Media work - especially television - can make for long hours. One thing that he was quick to point out is that he was "leaving a job [that he]....love[ed] so much."

A Rice Lake, Wisconsin native, Matt Halverson first came to the Duluth market and KBJR in April 2018.  His first positions included weekend sports anchor/reporter,  He was promoted to his current role as the Sports Director less than a year ago, in September 2021.

And even as he is stepping away from television, reporting, and sports in general, he promises to maintain a presence on Twitter - where he has often been a proponent of Wisconsin-based sports teams, championing their trials and tribulations.  Halverson's statement included a mention about those "Wisconsin flavored Tweets", saying that "they will continue".

He also thanks colleagues and viewers for "opportunities" and for friendships.
