National Tourism Week kicks off on May 2, and Minnesota's tourism agency Explore Minnesota wants to celebrate those businesses and employees who have been resilient in the tourism industry in 2020. It was a really tough year and tourism and hospitality businesses were hit hard. In Minnesota, tourism lost 50% of revenue that added up to 8.2 billion dollars. Fortunately vaccines are rolling out and restrictions are lifting allowing a hopeful return to normalcy.

Minnesota tourism agencies also recognize the shift in customers and how they've found different ways to support the tourism industry in 2020. More people have been using state parks and outdoor offerings of the state, along with ordering to go food from restaurants and bars.

The U.S. Travel Association presents the National Tourism Week for 2021 as a way to recognize the power of travel in state, local, and national economies. Experts agree that tourism should bounce back better than ever once the pandemic is behind us, as many people are eager to get out and experience things after a year of being stuck at home.

Explore Minnesota Director John Edman elaborates,

"Despite an incredibly challenging year, we are optimistic that travel is coming back. We know travelers are eager to hit the road for their next Minnesota adventure this summer and we welcome them."

If you've been planning on a summer camping trip, you should probably start booking your camp sites now, as Minnesota State Parks are already filling up. Many resorts up the North Shore are already booking up fast as well.
