A whole new kind of competitive sport activity is coming to a Minnesota venue that's set to open this fall.

If you're someone who enjoys yard games like cornhole or activities like bowling, curling, or axe throwing, this new venue and sport might be something right up your alley.

Here's a look at what this new sport is and what you need to know about the new venue where you'll be able to play.

'Fowling' comes to Minnesota

If you have no idea what fowling is, you might think it has something to do with bowling, being it is nearly the same word. You'd be right. Fowling is, in short, a blending of the game of bowling with football.

The sport was born out of a tailgating game, where you set up two groups of bowling pins kind of like the game of cornhole, using a football to knock down pins at the opposing end.

It is a little more involved than just throwing a football and knocking down pins. There is a special pin that helps with scoring in certain situations. Groups of 3-5 people can play on a team, taking turns throwing. There are even overtime rules if you end the game in a tie. You can learn more about the rules in this video:

As you can see in the video, this sport is played in venues set up kind of like bowling alleys, and one is opening in Minnesota this fall.

Where will the Minnesota fowling venue be? When will it open? How much will it cost?

The "Fowling Warehouse" is a chain of fowling venues that has been opening in various locations across the country. The company has venues in places like Omaha, Dallas, Detroit, and Cincinnati, but now the Twin Cities in Minnesota will be getting a Fowling Warehouse.

The Twin Cities Fowling Warehouse location will be opening in Minneapolis, located at 401 Royalston Avenue. Just a few blocks west of Target Field and near the Minneapolis Farmers Market.

The 32,000-square-foot facility will feature 21 fowling lanes along with a full bar and the other elements you'd expect at something like a bowling alley or sports bar. There will be big-screen TVs, a food menu, and other games available as part of your experience.

Once they open, you don't have to pay just to get in. You'll be able to go in to watch others play, grab a beer, or enjoy some food without having to pay an admission fee.

If you want to play, you can either pay on a per-player basis for open play against others in the venue, or you can rent out a lane. Per-person open play provides unlimited play, while renting a lane is for an hourly rate.

The lane rental for the Minneapolis location starts at $140 for a 2-hour window. While open play pricing rates haven't been published yet, they are around $15-20 per person at other locations.

The Minneapolis Fowling Warehouse will be opening on Saturday, September 13, 2025. Once open, their hours will be 4 pm - 10 pm Monday through Thursday, 4 pm - midnight Friday, 11 am - midnight Saturday, and 11 am - 8 pm Sunday.

September 13 will serve as the grand opening for the Minneapolis venue, with the first guaranteed lane reservations for September 14. You can learn more on their website or social media.
