A very appropriate new world record was just made official in Minnesota by the team with the Guinness Book of World Records.

The news about this wintery attraction was made official just in time for their grand opening for the 2025 season. What an exciting way to kick things off!

What Minnesota attraction just set a Guinness World Record?

Eagan’s Minnesota Ice Festival set out to break a record that has been in place since 2010. That record? World's largest ice maze. I mean, it only seems appropriate that Minnesota would be the appropriate home of the world's largest ice maze, right?

The previous record was for a 12,855-square-foot ice maze in Buffalo, New York in 2010. The Minnesota Ice Festival set out to shatter that record, and has successfully done so.

The ice maze, located at TCO Stadium in Eagan, is 18,148 square feet - which is over 5,000 square feet bigger than the previous record! The walls for the maze are 8 feet tall, and are made of over 2 million pounds of ice. The maze's pathways offer almost a mile's worth of twists and turns to explore.

The event was canceled last year due to the very un-wintery conditions we saw most of the winter season. This year, however, has been cold enough for the maze and related events to happen!

What is there to do at The Minnesota Ice Maze?

This world record-setting maze is part of the Minnesota Ice Festival, which is an event held at the Minnesota Vikings practice facility in Eagan. The ice maze is a key attraction, sitting right on the practice field at their facility. Here's a sneak peek:

Along with the ice maze, there is an ice skating rink (with skate rental if you need skates), a scavenger hunt, an ice slide, ice games, an ice bar, a warming house, food trucks, and a series of special events.

One of those special events is the Carver Cup, an ice sculpture competition that starts at the end of January. There are also several nights of live music, meet-and-greet opportunities with Viktor the Viking, and more.

What do I need to know to attend the Minnesota Ice Maze and Festival?

The ice festival is open Thursdays through Sundays. The attraction is open from 4 pm to 10 pm Thursdays and Fridays, 11 am to 10 pm Saturdays, and 11 am to 9 pm Sundays.

The attraction opened for the season on January 10, and will be open through February 16.

Tickets are limited to a certain number per day, and can be purchased through the Minnesota Ice Festival website. Tickets are good for the day you select, and you can stay as long as you'd like (until they close that night).

26 Funny, Quirky, and Weird Minnesota Lake Names

With over 10,000 lakes, Minnesota is bound to have some lakes with odd names. With dozens of lakes with names like Mud Lake, Long Lake, Rice Lake, or Bass Lake, here are some less common and more interesting lake names in the state.

I'll admit, I am certain there are many funny or quirky lake names I missed, but here are some that I did find amusing.
