Late Sunday evening, we got some sad news about the future of a popular Minnesota winter attraction.
The organizers of the Minnesota Ice Palace shared on Sunday evening (February 23) that this will unfortunately be the final season the attraction will welcome visitors.
The Minnesota Ice Palace is one of two ice attractions in the Twin Cities area. The competing Minnesota Ice Castles has moved around the Twin Cities over the years, while the Ice Palace has set up shop on the west side of the Twin Cities metro area in Delano.
Why is the Minnesota Ice Palace Closing down?
In a social media post from the Minnesota Ice Palace, they explained that last year's "challenging season" created significant hurdles from which to bounce back.
The winter of 2023-2024 saw a very limited number of "normal" winter days, with a lot of above-normal temperatures throughout the season. That made last year really tough for a lot of winter activities, attractions, and festivals across the state - including the Ice Palace.
Last year, The Minnesota Ice Palace was only able to be open for a total of four days. Similarly, the competing Minnesota Ice Castles attraction was only open for about a week as well last year.
With the amount of time and resources it takes to create the ice palace, only being able to open for four days is a big hit to take for a family business like theirs.
When is the last day of the Minnesota Ice Palace?
In a heartfelt message shared on their social media, the family in charge of the attraction expressed gratitude for those who have come to experience the attraction over the last few years they've been in operation.
They explained that they will be in operation through Sunday, March 2, 2025, when they will shut down.

While they are closed Monday-Wednesday, they will reopen for their finals days starting on Thursday at 5 pm, welcoming visitors Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until they close Sunday evening. You can find ticket information and hours on their website.
The Minnesota Ice Palace is one of two locations the company operates. The first is in Idaho, in its 8th season. The Minnesota Ice Palace opened in 2022 for the first time in Delano, operating there over the last few years.
