The Minnesota live music scene is about to get a big boost from a new multimillion‐dollar outdoor amphitheater that will host some of the biggest tours in the country starting next year.

A Huge New Venue for Minnesota

The new Mystic Lake Amphitheater is set to open to the public next year, and it has already started making concert announcements for its first season. Pop/rockers 5 Seconds of Summer will play the new outdoor venue on July 22, and heavy-metal icons Iron Maiden and Megadeth will take the stage on September 19.

The 19,000-seat venue, which will be the largest outdoor amphitheater in Minnesota, has just announced another show for its opening season: Train is bringing their “Drops of Jupiter: 25 Years in the Atmosphere Tour” with special guests Barenaked Ladies and Matt Nathanson.

The show is scheduled for August 9, and tickets will go on sale this week. A presale begins Thursday using code “26MYSTIC,” with general on-sale Friday.

Fun fact: this will be the second venue the Barenaked Ladies have played in their opening year, the first band to play the then-new Xcel Energy Center (now Grand Casino Arena) in St. Paul when it opened in 2000.

Shakopee’s Big Entertainment Moment

The new Mystic Lake Amphitheater will be the crown jewel of Canterbury Commons in Shakopee’s growing entertainment district. Once complete, the development is expected to attract not just concert-goers but visitors from all over the region, with shopping, restaurants, bars and more.
