Minnesota Power to Increase Franchise Fees for Homes and Businesses
If you are a MInnesota Power customer be prepared for an increase , but no word on when this will take affect.
The Duluth City Council voted 7-2 on Friday for the increase which will have the average homeowner pay about $1.50 extra per month, but for big businesses this could be quite a substantial increase.
This franchise fee should bring in around $ 2.2 million dollars into the city of Duluth to replace the former street fees that residents were charged for. I know for myself personally I don't feel that is too outrageous considering some of our electric bills from this summer were massive from running the air conditioner and dehumidifier. So, a $1.50 increase per month is pretty doable.
Mayor Emily Larson stated that this is the first franchise fee increase for Minnesota Power in Duluth in the last 15 years.
