The Minnesota State Patrol is stepping speed enforcement during the next couple of weeks.

The State Patrol says that "troopers, deputies, and officers with more than 300 law enforcement agencies will be on the lookout for speeders now through July 22."

Last year in Minnesota speed was the #1 contributing factor in single-vehicle crashes at 22 %. According to State Patrol numbers:

During the 100 deadliest days (Memorial Day-Labor Day) in 2017:

  • Preliminary numbers show speed played a role in 23 fatalities.
  • In the past five years, 2013-2017, 108 people lost their lives in speed-related crashes.

“Even one life lost to speeding is one too many,” said Captain Jeremy Geiger, Minnesota State Patrol. “That’s why the local TZD Safe Roads coalitions are joining other state and local law enforcement and highway safety leaders across Minnesota to remind drivers to never drive faster than your guardian angel can fly.”
