It's official. Missy Elliott has just become the first female rapper to be inducted into the coveted Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Last night (June 13), the Virginia native was the guest of honor at the induction ceremony in New York City. Other women in hip-hop like Da Brat and Lizzo were in the building to perform before Missy was inducted. Later on, the OG herself Queen Latifah appeared on stage to personally induct Missy into the Hall of Fame where she belongs. Even Michelle Obama recorded a touching video in which she thanked Missy for empowering women all over the country.

"I want to say one thing to the writers, to the upcoming writers: Do not give up. We all go through writer's block," Elliott said at the ceremony. "Sometimes you just have to walk away from a record and come back to it. But don't give up because I'm standing here. And this is big for hip-hop, too."

Prior to Missy's induction, only three other rappers have been awarded the prestigious honor. Jay-Z was the first MC in the SHOF's 50-year history to be inducted in 2017. Then, in June 2018, Jermaine Dupri was awarded a spot in the SHOF. Missy was overwhelmed with emotions when she found out about her award back in January.

"I want to CONGRATULATE all the AMAZING songwriters who have been inducted into the 2019 Song Writers Hall of Fame🙌🏾🙌🏾," Missy wrote in the caption of a photo of herself on Instagram on Jan. 12. "Also those who were nominated because their body of work is AMAZING🙌🏾 I AM SO HUMBLY GRATEFUL & crying tears of Joy to now be inducted also thank you God🙏🏾 and I love all of you so much!"
